ASICS Footwear: My Favorite Post-Race Recovery Routine

A lot of bigger races really go the extra distance to celebrate runners with some impressive post-race festivities, which can include live music, vendor booths, beer or even games. In my opinion, wearing ASICS running shoes is one of the best parts of racing. One thing that many of my teammates and I share is a love of free stuff. It may sound ridiculous, but one of the first things.

Some runners may think the race is reward enough, but I thrive on that sense of accomplishment and earned exhaustion I experience in the moments following a finish. If we've traveled out of town for the race, we'll make plans to meet up later in the evening to explore the area, but if the race was local we'll usually lay low the rest of the day and plan to meet up later in the week for an easy recovery run or a happy hour.

 Sports drinks, snack foods, smoothies (my favorite!)—these are all great things to look forward to as you walk around and stretch your legs after a strong race effort. I check when signing up for a race is who is sponsoring it, because sponsors often provide many of the freebies that you'll find in the race recovery area. After a group stretch, we'll usually stick around for quite a while to enjoy all the fun.

Smaller races can also offer impressive post-race celebrations. For instance, a handful of us just ran a 5K charity race a couple of months back and were rewarded with a finishers' champagne brunch. You can't beat that.
At some point, we'll typically leave the finisher festivities and head to brunch together. Brunch allows us to get off our feet and settle in to discuss the nuances of the race—who felt strong, who was having a tough time, how that hill at mile nine was way steeper than expected. It's a great time for reflection and togetherness, for celebrating the effort we just endured.
Physical exertion and overindulgence at brunch are the perfect recipe for a midday nap, and most of us sneak away after brunch to catch some zzz's.I like to use any ounce of energy I have left to soak up the glory of race day, which means that much of the recovery routine is built around entertainment.

Bates USMC Military Issue Combat Boots

These boots also feature the EGA emblem on the outer heel of each boot, which indicates that these are official USMC issue. All stitching is double reinforced, and the seams are neat and tidy. The gluing of the sole to the boot is also very sturdy and in good order. These boots feature a tanned suede upper, oil resistant soles, and Goretex lining. What can say to the durability of the Bates Enforcer Jump Boots?  Also, when laced and worn correctly, these boots are waterproof up to the top of the boot. I wear my Jump boots not only in the field ( 7 all day games and 3 short games so far) , but also in normal everyday wear, dancing at nightclubs, and even as dress boots. I wore these boots to my last job interview, along with my Italian double breasted suit.The Goretex lining helps to wick sweat away from the foot, and lets the boot breathe easily.
The suede upper is of very high quality, and the tanning is a perfectly consistent coyote brown color. Well, let me tell you first, how much I have worn them.  A problem with the USMC marking appears to be the factory blemish on this particular pair, but it's hardly noticeable. The official Bates label is stitched on the inside of the tongue. The soles appear to be quite rugged, and have an aggressive tread.

The extremely thick outsoles are arced on the bottom, like rockers on a rocking chair, leading you into a rolling heel-to-toe gait.  As a recent study points out, walking heel to toe is generally not good for us, because of the impact concentrated on the heel. Nike Air Force NikeID Shoes

Guys can also customize clothing, but they only have a couple of tight running T-shirts. I would like to see some “normal” girly sport clothes that I can customize myself, but I guess we’ll have to wait for that. These are shoes that have a secret compartment in the left sole, where you can place the Nike+ iPod sensor. I haven’t mastered the iPod sensor yet (it doesn’t do completely what I want), but more about that another time.

What I found a bit weird though was that they didn’t have the model I wanted in my size to try out. For the shoes, this means you can let them stitch your name or a short phrase on the tongues of the shoes (or if you’re boring something like “Left” and “Right” or “Sinister” and “Dexter”). Beside the shoes, you can also customize bags and watches.

The coolest part of the customization choices is that you can put your iD on them. After running with these a couple of weeks, I have to say I love how comfortable they are. I might even wear them besides my running, although they might be a bit too shiny for that. I got a pair of Air Zoom Moira+ iD for my birthday, together with the iPod sensor. While working out, the sensor sends all types of information to your iPod.

If you are looking for new running shoes, these are pretty good, but they might be a bit expensive for some (80 pounds). Next to the regular NikeID shoes, you can also get Nike+ID.I had gone to the Nike Store at Oxford Circus (London), where they have a special section for Nike iD orders. Add the iPod sensor to that and that’s quite an investment into some sports gear. For me, it was absolutely worth it and if you’re willing to put a bit of money into it, this is by far the way to go. The guys there are quite helpful and you can try out and see the different designs and colors they have.
